Workshops

We deliver liberation-focused, community-led workshops designed to build communities of care, collective safety, and mutual protection, particularly for people most impacted by policing, surveillance, and state violence. Grounded in lived experience, our workshops strengthen community capacity to care for one another outside carceral systems and support practical, non-coercive responses to harm and distress.

Creativity is central to our approach. Each workshop includes creative and arts-based activities that invite participants to express their experiences, insights, and visions for safety and freedom through art. These practices are used as tools for reflection, connection, and collective meaning-making, not as therapy or compliance, but as acts of resistance, care, and imagination.

Our workshops include:

  • Mutual protection from the state
    • Understanding declared public precincts in South Australia
    • Understanding your rights when dealing with police
    • Your right to record police
    • Understanding limits of police power
  • Collective care and safety
    • Responding to mental distress
  • Freedom of information processes
    • Making FOI applications
    • Appealing determinations, including redactions and refusals
    • Applying to amend government records
  • Government decision-making
    • Making effective submissions for decisions
    • Understanding Procedural Fairness
  • De-escalation strategies
    • Holding each other through heat: community-led responses to conflict and distress
    • Practical tools for de-escalation that do not rely on police, restraint, or coercion
    • supporting safety while maintaining relationships and autonomy

Each workshop runs for approximately three hours and can accommodate up to 25 participants.

Workshops include creative activities that allow participants to express their experiences, insights and perspectives through art.

Following each workshop, selected artworks created by participants are curated for publication and shared through our very cool zine publications, available in both physical and digital formats.
